Fr. Maria Francis Jayapathy, S.J., a renowned anthropologist, is currently the Director of a Jesuit organization to help alcohol and drug dependents. In the past, he has been the director of centers, which he himself developed, such as Culture and Communication, Chennai and FRRC, Palayamkottai. He served for four years as the Vice President of Transactional Analysis Society of India, and recently as the Project Officer – Tsunami Works.

Fr. Jayapathy has to his credit many years of teaching in various institutes and offering courses and seminars in universities and other academic institutions. He is an avid researcher in areas such as anthropology, folklore, culture, conflict and alcoholism. As a result of his researches, he has authored a number of books and articles.
