BMI 2018 – Ms. Archana Ganesan
“My Journey”
Ms. Archana Ganesan – Assistant Vice President & Branch Head, HDFC Bank
The BMI session on 5th December 2018 was another intriguing session in this term which focussed on the various facets in the banking sector. The guest speaker on this occasion was none other than Ms. Archana Ganesan, Assistant Vice President and Branch Head, HDFC Bank. Being an alumni of LIBA, Ms. Archana explained how LIBA helped her to initiate her corporate career as her recruitment into HDFC Bank 13 years ago was through the campus recruitments.
Ms. Archana was able to raise the spirits of many of the fresher students in the room, as she herself was a fresher when she joined LIBA. Her journey in HDFC since then has been commendable, as she was able to climb the corporate ladder and reach the position of APV from an executive trainee within a span of just 7 years.
She then explained how banking is a field which is ever evolving and in order to succeed one needs to constantly upgrade his/her knowledge. Digitization is one facet which is increasingly changing the face of banking, as things such as opening an account, shopping, entertainment, obtaining a loan etc. are all just a button away from the customers. Digitization in the form of Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and block chain technology will enable to make the customers experience a much smoother one. The only shortcoming in digitization is the lack of training among the employees and the lack of trust especially among the older generation, which can eventually be overcome by proper training and better security measures such as advanced biometric authentication.
The highly informative session was concluded by Ms. Archana with a saying that “Banking is a constantly evolving field. Hence, you have only two options, either you change or you perish”.
