Pongal Celebrations 2024
Loyola Institute of Business Administration celebrated Aruvadai Thiruvizha, festival of Harvest with great pomp and show on 12th January 2024. The event commenced with a festive procession of students by foot and girls carrying Mualipari filled with the growing plants indicating the fertility of the land and dignitaries following in traditional bullock carts, followed by the energetic parai and silambam performance, to celebrate farmers and thank them for the bountiful harvets. Sun News channel covered the celebrations capturing bytes of Rev. Fr. C. Joe Arun SJ, Director, LIBA, and a few students who gave their views on the importance of celebrating traditional festivals in Business Schools. Fr. Director then lit the firewood for the Pongal making contest while folk arts performers from Alternative Media Centre performed the traditional folk dances to a captivated audience. Various games such as Uriyadi, Karumbu Udaithal, Tug of War were conducted, in which the students, faculty and staff participated enthusiastically. The winners of the Pongal contest and the folk artists were honoured with traditional Kutraalam Towels. Aruvadai Thiruvizha at LIBA was a celebration of tradition, food, music, and fun aimed to embrace the cultural significance of Pongal, the Tamil harvest festival and to promote awareness and appreciation of diverse traditions among LIBA students, foster a sense of community and inclusivity within the institute.
